Sushi@school and sushi@fete

How times have changed from when a warm pie in a brown paper bag, drowned in tomato sauce, was the lunch order we spent all day waiting for!  What a delight that now, as parents, we have the opportunity to treat our children and remain guilt free with companies like Sushi@school.

Sushi@school provides fresh, healthy sushi orders to schools all around Melbourne, including Caulfield Junior College.  Knowing what a hit sushi always is with children (and adults alike), we will be serving it at this year's Fete.  Look for it in the “Cafe pour les Enfants”, under the wonderful friendship tree at CJC.

At the Café pour les Enfants, we will be creating a magical little place for our little people to have a cafe of their very own.  To balance out the treats also available in the kids café, we will position the sushi most strategically there.

Do not be concerned if you are no longer a kid or an enfant, the grade 6 children running the show will be sure to still serve you!

We are thrilled to have Rusty Rose showing at this year's International Fete.

Katie Evans will have on show and for sale her signature Winter Babies. These adorable handmade treasures are the ideal gift for any age or just a treat for yourself.

Winter Babies are wheat packs in the shape of small swaddled babies and are individually handmade using vintage fabrics from specialty stores and markets in Melbourne. Each baby is unique given the availability of different fabrics and careful handcrafting. They simply go into the microwave to be heated up to provide warmth and comfort of all different kinds.

Zumba United by Keren

We have all heard of Zumba and many of us regularly shake our bootie in a Zumba class, but for those of you who have been living on another planet, what is Zumba?
Zumba is a Latin-Inspired dance-fitness class, incorporating Latin and International music and dance moves, ZUMBA is a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system combining fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.
There are easy-to-follow steps that include body sculpting, which targets areas such as gluteals, legs, arms, core, abdominals and the most important muscle – the heart!
Designed for everyone – ZUMBA is fun, different, easy and effective.
There are also specially designed classes for children from 4 years and up.
Keren from Zumba United will treat us to a 20 minute Zumba class at 11am on the stage during the fete, so you can work off the crepes and croissants.
They will also very generously be handing out 50 free class passes (to the value of $600) and there will be the chance for one lucky person to win a 10 pack of classes to the value of $99.

L'Artisan Cheese

How could any Fete be called International without a little bit of Fromage to nibble on through the afternoon, and this is not just any cheese.  Matthieu Megard, is a French native, third generation cheese maker and father to twin boys at Caulfield Junior College.
Matthieu is bringing the taste of the French Alps to the Otways foothills and for one day to Caulfield. Matthieu has set up shop at the Mouse Trap Café on the farm of the Schulz family, who formerly operated Timboon Cheese. When Matthieu heard National Foods was closing down their operation on the Schulz family's biodynamic dairy farm he jumped at the opportunity to lease the cheese factory and cafe, and founded L'Artisan Cheese.
He is making four cheeses which all have strong connections with traditional cheese making in his alpine homeland. They include Reblochon - a soft washed-rind cheese, Triple Cream - a cross between a brie and a fresh curd cheese; Coulomniers - which tastes between a Brie and Camembert; and Fresh Fromage Blanc, which is similar to yoghurt and made from separating the whey and curd.
Yes I know, all too delicious.... do you really have to wait another 40 days to try it!  So whether you prefer your cheese before the meal, or savour it for after, French style, there will certainly be a queue at the L'Artisan marquee, let your nose guide you there.
Mouse Trap Cafe, 23 Ford & Fells Road, Timboon, VIC.

Dan Warner on Spicks and Specks tonight! (8.30 pm, ABC 1, 12/10/11)

If you walk into the front bar of The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, the premier music venue in Australia's premier music town, you'll find a gold plaque on the wall that reads, 'The Dan Warner Room'. Such an accolade is no surprise given that Dan Warner is one of Australia's most loved and most respected musicians.

Dan will be kicking off the Caulfield Junior College International Fete with an acoustic performance from 10am.

Dan's writing skills are the result of several years spent at the musical coalface. His 90s band, The Warner Brothers, was considered a seminal band in the local alt-country scene. Rolling Stone mused The Warner Brothers' first album, Talking In Your Sleep, was 'as good a debut album as you're likely to hear'. The Warner Brothers later became Overnight Jones. Dan also plays regularly with guitarist Al MacInnes. Dan & Al regularly pack in over 300 people at their famous shows at The Great Britain, The Punters Club and The Corner Hotel in Melbourne.

As a solo artist Dan has also been in demand. In late '05 he toured the UK with former Weddings, Parties, Anything front man, Michael Thomas. Dan also recently opened shows for touring artists such as Bob Geldof and Steve Earle. Dan also works as a singer/instrumentalist, playing live Jen Anderson's soundtrack for the Australian silent film, The Sentimental Bloke. In 2005 the film played in Venice and London. In 2006 the film toured to the USCanada and Japan.

When at home, Dan presents 'Warner Corner' each Sunday afternoon on Melbourne's much-loved community radio station, 3RRR FM.

Dan is about to embark on his ‘As Seen On TV’ tour  around Melbourne and Victoria.

Dan’s last solo album, Night Parrots, is now available for download at http://danwarner.bandcamp.com.  Bandcamp is a great new site, perfect for independent musos.
Dan’s first record, A Likeness of You, is up on iTunes here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/a-likeness-of-you/id194618939
If you'd like a Night Parrot in the hand, Basement Discs in Melbourne now stocks Dan’s CDs. Here's their site: http://www.basementdiscs.com.au

The Dan & Al reunion tickets go on sale at The Corner this week.

Bayard Jeunesse - French magazines for kids

Make sure you pass by the Bayard Jeunesse stand at this year's International Fete. Anne Carruthers has been distributing these gorgeous and educational magazines for many years, and she is well informed in knowing which magazine is right for your child.

Many of you from the French speaking community would be well aware of the enjoyment your children get out of the educational magazines available through Bayard and Milan. For over 40 years these magazines have been designed by educational professionals, as well as world-renowned authors, illustrators and cartoonists to ensure that not only are they enjoyed by the children, but also highly regarded by parents also.

So if you are a French speaking family or just a francophile, then truly consider giving your children the joy of rushing to the mail box once a month to find their own subscription to one of the many publications available to us here in Australia.

To contact Anne you can go to www.frenchmagforkids.com or email her at bayard.australie@gmail.com.
